Conversion Experience
I was born in 1966 in Iguala, Gerrero, and have six younger sisters. I was the first to be saved in my family at the age of twenty-two, and my dad is still lost. Presently, my wife, Miryam, and I have five children.
Calling and Preparation
I served for eighteen months as pastor of a very small church in the suburbs of Mezcala, Guerrero, a city of about 9,000 people. The church grew from three members to forty-nine. At that time, I knew that I needed biblical training and my home church pastor, Arturo Muños, encouraged me to attend Maranatha Bible Institute, a ministry of Bible Baptist Church, located in San Luis Potosi. The church is pastored by Dr. Luis Ramos. I am presently completing my final year of training.
The Field
After being called into the ministry, I desired to pastor a large church. Currently, I am starting the Bible Baptist Church in Cerritos. The church membership has been increasing steadily.
Future Goals
- Send pastors to different areas of my country
- Prepare more servants
- Open an orphanage
- Build a large auditorium
- Support missionaries around the world
San Luis Potosí, Mexico
Mexico consists of 31 states and one federal district. Spanish is the official language, but one million Mexicans speak other indigenous languages. The population is approximately 105 million and grows by 1.8 million yearly. Mexico’s climate varies from dry desert wasteland conditions in the north to rainy, tropical conditions in the southeast and a mild climate in the central plateau.
San Luis Potosí is a land-locked state, located near the center of Mexico, with a population of 670,537. The name, San Luis, was granted to the capital city in honor of its founder, Luis of Leija. Potosí, the name of a wealthy Bolivian mining city, was added later after the area became well-known for its rich silver mines. Today, San Luis Potosí is a financially prosperous state, but most of its people are very poor.
However, the spiritual condition of the Mexican people is worse. The Roman Catholic Church has been deeply etched into all areas of Mexican life. Ninety percent of all Mexicans profess Roman Catholicism. It was present in Mexico from the first days of the Spanish Conquest. Throughout the country’s history, the Catholic Church has been the main unifying force of society. Many facets of Mexico’s Catholic Church come from native forms of worship as old gods were identified with saints and included in the Catholic religion. The most potent symbol of Mexican Catholicism is the Virgin of Guadalupe, a manifestation of the Virgin Mary who reportedly appeared on a hill near Mexico City in 1531.
Mexican people are searching for the truth and are open to the Gospel, but groups of American cults such as Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mormons, and Seventh-Day Adventists have gained millions of converts in the spiritually dry hearts of the people.
Thousands are saved each year as Bible-believing preachers tell them of the love of Christ. Pilot American missionaries, with established works, are training nationals in the ministry of the Gospel. National missionaries are sent out by the hundreds each year to win souls in cities, towns, and villages.
Global Church Planters desires to financially help these national missionaries (we call them Pioneers) start thousands of churches in Mexico.
