Dr. Smith’s Bio >

Dr. Smith was born in Myrtle Springs, Texas. He and his wife, Diana, have been married since 1958. They have three daughters, nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He was saved at the age of fifteen and surrendered to preach at the age of twenty-five. Dr. Smith earned a Bachelor's Degree at Bible Baptist Seminary, in Arlington, Texas. He earned a Master of Arts and received an honorary Doctor of Divinity from Baptist Christian University in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was associate pastor of Hurstview Baptist Church in Hurst, Texas, from 1966 to 1969. Dr. Smith then accepted a call to pastor Central Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Under his leadership, Central Baptist Church became the fastest-growing Baptist church in the state--growing from an attendance of 140 to a high attendance of 1,352. In 1976, he entered full-time evangelism for eight years and then became missions director for Independent Baptist Fellowship International in 1984.

In 1986, Dr. Smith was called to pastor Trinity Baptist Church in Arlington, Texas, which has steadily grown in size and maturity. The church currently averages over twelve hundred on Sunday mornings and baptizes about six hundred each year. Thirteen men from the church are currently serving as either pastors or associate pastors throughout the United States, and eleven missionary families have been sent out of the membership. More than 200 men and women have surrendered to full-time Christian service during the seventeen years that Dr. Smith has been the pastor. Under Dr. Smith's leadership, Trinity Baptist established Trinity Baptist Bible College and Trinity Baptist Academy in the fall of 2000. A large Spanish department is thriving and growing steadily. Soulwinning, bus, teen, children and vibrant adult ministries all work together to make TBC an exciting church on the go for our Lord.

In 2004, Trinity Baptist Church, under the direction of Pastor Smith, voted to begin Global Church Planters. Pastor Smith serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Global Church Planters and is ultimately responsible for the oversight of Global Church Planters.
